High School Reunion

I know a couple of posts ago I mentioned that I was getting over my reality TV addiction. Well, I have found a new show to replace the ones I let go of. TV Land's High School Reunion. It documents the 1987 class of some High School in Dallas, Texas. The cast members are all living in a house together in Hawaii for two weeks. Each episode they bring in new classmates. The classmates are labeled for the roles they played in High School such as the pipsqueak, the bully, the popular girl, the jock...awesome! There are romances blossoming, rekindling of old relationships and rivalries being broken. This show is right up my alley, watch out VHHS class of '99, I might just sign us up.

Close Eater

We've all heard of the inevitable close talker. Well, today I experienced something that I never hope to encounter again. Beware of the Close Eater! Today, Hill and I went to the food court at Brookwood. I purposely found a table that was out of the way as to not disturb anyone in case Hill started to cry. Just as I was emptying my last packet of ketchup and getting ready to take a bite out of my delicious Chik fil A sandwich, it happened...Close Eater came and sat at the little two person table right across from me. I looked around as if to say, "do you not see all of the empty tables around?" The two feet between us must have been too far for him to catch my brain waves. Worst of all, he didn't have his back to me, he was facing me, directly across from me. It was like we were eating together. Awkward!! Luckily I had Hill with me, so I kind of turned sideways in my chair to face her. I could feel Close Eater's eyes baring into the side of my face the whole lunch. What a weirdo!

He is such an Emo!

I love nicknames for things. For example, eating disorders were sadly rampant in college, so we needed a name for them. Hence, Ed was created. When I was little, my grandmother would tell us to make sure we washed our t-hiney's when taking a bath. Well, the name stuck and has even rubbed off on Kyle. He tells Hill "let's make sure we clean your t-hiney really good" when changing her diaper. The point of my post is this, because my mom is around high schoolers all day, she is up on the latest lingo and she introduced me to my new favorite nickname this weekend. Emo (pronounced E-Moe), short for emotional. It even has a definition on Wikipedia.

The term "emo" is sometimes stereotyped with tight jeans on males and females alike, long fringe (bangs) brushed to one side of the face or over one or both eyes, dyed black, straight hair, tight t-shirts (sometimes with short-sleeves) which often bear the names of rock bands (or other designed shirts), studded belts, belt buckles, canvas sneakers or skate shoes or other black shoes (often old and beaten up) and thick, black horn-rimmed glasses. In recent years the popular media has associated emo with a stereotype that includes being emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, or angsty. It is also associated with depression, self-injury, and suicide.

Apparently, the name emo has been around for a while, so I am a little upset that I am just now finding out about it. There are even websites dedicated to emo celebrities and emo haircuts and emo fashion. I feel so disconnected. So to all of the Pete Wentz listenin', tight black jeans wearin', floppy bangs sportin', punk rockin' sensitive teens out there, I am so glad that I have a name to call you now.

For Emily

Here are some new pics of Hill. Emily informed me that I needed more candid shots and I informed her that it is a little hard to do that when Hill can't even sit up on her own. The photo options are: laying down (blanket, grass, changing table, bath...) or propped up. So here are some new ones of her propped up. I promise to get more creative with the pictures as she gets older.

FYI...

It might come as a shock to some, but I am not remotely interested in this season's American Idol, Big Brother or America's Next Top Model. I am so over reality TV. Well, not really, but my DVR is thanking me for giving it a break and Kyle is very excited about not having to watch Tyra say "Congratulations, you're still in the running to become America's Next Top Model." 10 times in a row. All this reality TV talk is getting me excited about the new season of the Bachelor. I guess I'll have to start reading the spoilers on Jokers Updates. Here's the link for those who might be interested http://forums.jokersupdates.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=TheBachelor. Also, I've had a few requests for my celebrity gossip source, so here's the link to my favorite website. It may not have as much info as some of the other websites, but it always has good pictures. http://www.bricksandstonesgossip.com/. Happy reading!
